Looking for the memories in Beijing

One day my boss told me that I could take six days off. So I decided to go to Beijing visiting my friends and looking for my memory of Beijing.I bought the ticket and told two of my close friends that I was planning to go to Beijing. One of them said I could stay in his place.

May 3rd when I had finished my work, I carried my bag and took a taxi to the train station. I couldn't believe I was about to go back to Beijing when I was standing in the hall of Guilin Train Station. It was like a dream.

19:20 P.M. the train departed. It wasn't pleasant journey. I had to sit on the seat nearly 29 hours. During the time, there were two men who tried to grab my half seat and they succeed. Maybe because of the holiday, the train was crowded. A lot of people couldn't buy the tickets for seats. They could only buy the tickets for standing. I saw a very young mom holding her little baby and sitting on her stool in the aisle. I felt sad and that made me think a lot of about life. For those people maybe I was lucky.

May 4th 11: 40 P.M. I arrived at my friend's flat. Two of them had been waiting for me. When I entered the room, XiaoYu, one of my close friends, said: "Come, have a drink!" I threw my bag immediately. Three of us were holding the glasses, they said: "Welcome back to Beijing!"

Later we had a little party. I brought the demos of my home making album, which I haven't finished to them. They listened to it and said no bad, but they preferred to my new songs that I played to them after that. XiaoYu said it's been a long time! Haven't heard this kind of music that could make him feel so peaceful! He used an English word to describe it, pure! I guess he really likes those songs. Two of them always support me, encourage me and they are always nice to me. They are just like my brothers. That night we were drinking beer and whisky, talking music and life. Sometimes they talked about business, market that I don't understand at all. Then I realized "I am in Beijing now!"

May 5th. I planned to see the university I used to live and study. Two of my roommates who I haven't seen for four years said that they would meet me at that university. At noon I arrived first and I said I would be waiting at the gym. After a while, one of them, "fat boy", we call him, had arrived. He was scanning the crowd and couldn't find me. Just then, he saw a guy who was smiling at him and he thought "Is this guy?' Finally he recognized me. He said: " I can't nearly recognize you. You used to be having long hair." I said happily: " me too. You're fatter." "And you're thinner." So we kept talking, walking. A few minutes later, I met the other roommate. We had lunch together in the dinning hall four. That university has 8 big dinning halls. And now all of them are not as the same as they used to be. They are much modern and nicer.

"Do you remember that guy?" "Do you know how has he been?" "Oh, he is working for…?" We had a long lunch. After lunch, we were walking on the campus and

looking for our memories. On of my roommates said:" It's just like that all the things happened yesterday." And I agreed with him.

That day I felt I was in a dream and we just kept walking, talking, looking and laughing. I just enjoyed all the memories with them, sunshine and friendship.

May 6th. It was an amazing day.

At noon I went to see a girl who I can talk about poetry and literature with. We had lunch together and had a very nice conversation. She told me that
she is getting married. I saw her happy facial expression and I felt so happy for her. After lunch she had to go back to work, so I planned to walk around. I got on the metro heading to Wang Fu Jing walking street. I like that place. I used to go there several times. Later I was there again, but I couldn't find the feeling I used to have. Anyway I just kept walking and taking pictures. Just then I was at the front door of Foreign Language bookstore. CD shops and bookstores, two kind of places I really like to go inside and take a look. It's a very nice place, quiet. I enjoyed walking, looking in there, even though I didn't have any specific books I wanted. I just scanned that great number of different books.

A western guy was talking to a shop assistant. He tried to find some English studying books for his Chinese friend. I could tell they had a tiny problem of communication. So I went toward him and said: "Sorry to bother you, maybe I could help." Then we had a little conversation. I said the books which he was holding are good, good for the beginner of Chinese students who want to learn English." I asked him if he is French, because I could tell from his accent. He said yes. I also told him about myself, an English teacher, on my vacation… Before we said goodbye, he thanked for the help. After that I went the top of floor and bought a Chinese rock album, then I left that bookstore.

I got on the subway, decided to go to Tiananmen Square. I wanted to check National Museum, but unfortunately when I got there, I saw some solders were cleaning the square. The tourists were forced to leave the square. Two of western tourists still wanted to go there, but the solders didn't allow. They wanted to know why, but the solders couldn't let them understand. So I thought it was my show time. I translated that the solders wanted to tell them. "They said they have a activity." They also wondered what kind of the activity, they were curious. Then I translated again, "Foreign government officers come."

After that, one of them was kind to me. So we had a 7 or 8 minutes conversation. They told me that they had been here for only two days. They were from the U.S America. "It is very hard to find someone who can speak English." They said. They were very interested in some old Chinese building. They pointed at it and asked me what it was. I told them that was an old Chinese city gate. They also asked me something, but I couldn't understand. Then I realized I have to keep practicing my English.

8 P.M. I got back to my friend's flat and we had dinner together. He said: "Let's go to a concert today." So we went.

When we arrived at a bar, which is called "Jiangjinjiu", I saw two western people sat in front of the bar and played their music. I felt so exciting and couldn't wait to go inside, but my friend was taking pictures of me. I said: " Hurry up, Hurry up!" That day was Wednesday, so my friend said I was so lucky, because if we went at weekends, we wouldn't get any changes to get inside. That bar is too small, but we got two seats though that night. When those two musicians took a break, I went toward them talking with them. They are from Australia. “My first foreign English teacher is Australian and He is very nice to me. We still keep in touch!” “That’s why you can speak such a good English!” They said proudly.  They were so nice to me and I told them about my songs and my dreams. I also sang my songs to them.

The most surprising thing is that the leader singer, Jane, her great-grandma was Chinese. That night we had a wonderful time together. Ian, one of them gave me his email address. My friend who can only speak a little English also joined the conversation. He said to Ian: “He is the best!” He put his hand on my shoulder, “You can become his music teacher and teach him to write good songs…” and Ian said: “I can give advice, hahahaha.” We had a long conversation and later we took some pictures altogether. I had never been so happy and exciting. I also could tell my friend from his facial expression, he was happy and exciting too.

When the concert was over, my friend decided to take me to another bar. Which usually has some Jazz concert. Unfortunately there was no concert that night. Anyway my friend took me some photos in front of the bar which is called  "East shore."

        What an amazing day!

May 7th. It was a great day too. I went to see a friend who used to be my guitarist. We haven't seen each other for four years. After that I became a tourist again. I was walking on the old clock tower street. I found a lot of interesting shops; things and I took a great number of photos.

In the evening I went back to my friend's apartment. We had a little concert. My friend and I were drinking beer and playing some old Chinese romantic songs, which both of us love, but to be honest, that was the worst concert you've ever seen. During the playing, we made a lot of mistakes, forgot the chords and something like that. But we enjoyed ourselves! We felt so happy and so glad to be together playing some music again. I shot our singing and playing. (I keep the video and saw it a lot of times when I got back. That made me not feels so lonely).

That night we were just singing, laughing and drinking. Later, we were talking about music, dreams, life, reality, poetry, philosophy, love, and girls.I said: "I am weak!" "I know" he said, "You're just like a simply boy who lives in his romantic dreams. French girls would like you." Yeah, I was so happy to hear that.

So my days in Beijing were over and I would always remember those days.
